Mogadishu University and United Nations University for peace have inked a deal on research and peace studies
Mogadishu University and United Nations University for Peace have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote collaboration in a wide range of areas of common interest.
A brief signing ceremony was held on Thursday 25th January 2024 at Decale Hotel which was co-chaired by the president of Mogadishu University Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal and UPeace rector Dr. Francisco Rojas with a participation of high level leader members from the two institutions.
This collaborative agreement will focus on promoting research, joint academic conferences, curriculum development, knowledge sharing and peace studies and other vital areas of common interest.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Francisco Rojas, Upeace rector has underscored the potential opportunities that the MOU bears for both institutions and opens a new horizon for Somalia and East Africa.
In his remarks, Dr. Mursal, Mogadishu university president, expressed his excitement for this agreement. “I believe that this partnership will bring a meaningful educational and social impact to horn. If we join hands, we prevail”. He added.
United Nations University for Peace is a higher education institution, created by United Nations (UN) General Assembly Resolution 35/55 in 1980 to study peace; on the other hand, Mogadishu University is a leading higher education institution, established in 1997 and holds the distinction of being the first university opened after the civil war in 1991, which hugely impacted the educational system in the country.
